Mercy Blog Part 1: Is What We Need!

Mercy Blog Part 1: Is what we need!

Anyone remember Covid? 5 years ago, I wrote this song just before the quarantine. A faceless neighbor lashed out at me in a way that humiliated me. I thought I was asking a fair enough question regarding the effects of living next to a tranformer. How many of us have these toxic interaction online? I was embarrassed and SO tempted to write back from my rage insults designed to tear this man down. It almost felt like a kind of gravity pulling me to react from my shame; gain a sense of power back.

But I didn't. I stayed with the emotions instead; feel to heal. And this song came out in the process. The anger expressed gave way to the insight that both my (troll:) neighbor and I were desperately in need of mercy. I didn't know him, but I knew I didn't want to hurt him. So the self-retraint was well rewarded with a song that came in so handy as the covid quarantine hit only a few weeks later.

I enjoyed singing it so often during that crazy time in a tiny apartment in the middle of the NYC chaos. Instead of fear, I was reminded of how scared my neighbors were and saw many acts of agression as calls for mercy. Instead of taking the bait, I'd sing the song and find that expanded safe space that mercy provides when we'll to invite it in.

Here is a clip of what I wrote back then as I released a raw video of me performing the song in that tiny apartment that held so much love and mercy as a beacon in those times that the floor was slanted under it's immense weight:

“This video was the first take and not perfect - but when the birds started singing with me at the last verse – I knew I had to share this exact one. I've been inspired by my fellow musicians providing raw and real content at this time. They are mastering the tech to keep the music going no matter what. I have lots to figure out on that front, like making sure I don't cut my head off in the video:) But this is raw and real and one step at a time.

The Blue Angels just flew over NYC and many of my neighbors are cheering from their stoops and windows. We are better and stronger together, so don't turn against your neighbor just because they aren't reacting to this they way YOU think they should. You don't know their whole story. And all of us deserve a little mercy right now. And now here come the church bells in the distance...”

And then there were the church bells!!! Anyone researching sound/vibrational healing has probably read about how the ringing of Bells, especially the large church bells once found in every town, can offer so much vibrational medicine to the human body. I didn't know about that back then. But there it is, clear as day: proof that mercy was ringing out even in the middle of the deserted parks and streets. You have to be atuned to it notice though. You have to take responsibility for yourself and invite it in – instead of indulging in the tit for tat game.

In fact it doesn't matter who, when you offer mercy to someone else, it becomes available for you. And when you accept Mercy for yourself, it becomes available for those around you. It spills over because it's that kind and generous. I was reminded of this perfectly a few weekends ago when coincidentally it turned out to be Mercy Sunday – something I needed desperately as you'll learn in Mercy Blog Part 2. This scripture has been echoing in my mind ever since that the Gospel at Mercy Sunday:

John 20:22 - 23

22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.

Holding onto the hate and anger will only poison your own soul. Revenge can entrap you forever.

You have to decide to reset your focus from whatever pain and struggle and emotion that has you in it's grip. You just can't afford to take the bait cause it will lead you into low vibration everytime. Instead use your discipline to rise above the algorithm, to take the higher road. Take even the smallest test of will to even say the word Mercy. It's encoded with vibrational medicine and will blow the doors off your prison.

Just try it. Even better, take a listen to my song. Sing along even. Cause Mercy is what we need.

Here is the music video links + a link to my bandcamp where you can download now! Then on 5/22/25 it will be available on all major streaming platforms.
